Sound Analysis within trailers
Sound in a trailer is a very important thing because its one of the main things that creates suspense and makes everything more scary for the audience that are watching. If the trailers didn't have any sound they would be very boring as there will be no speech and no action or horror music.
The Grudge
The trailer above if from the grudge and the sound in this makes the trailer much more scary and puts the audience on edge. There are a lot of non diegetic sounds such as the heart beat background sound at the start of the trailer to get the audience attention. in this trailer there isn't a lot of diegetic sound as its not a scary as what can be made in the editing room. Sound also helps to build tension and create climax. Without the music we wouldn't understand what was going on with the trailer. This is why it suits a horror perfectly and would work really well at the start of our OTS.
28 Days Later
The trailer above 28 days later uses variation of sound that makes the trailer scarier and creates mystery. There is a lot of non diegetic sound south as alarm which starts off the trailer after a short period of silence. There is also a use of slicing noise and spark of electricity. The sound will change in the trailer every time the titles in the trailer came up. This got the audiences attention and built tension throughout the rest of trailer. All these sounds being used when the titles came up with different sounds. It built climax throughout the trailer and helps you to understand the trailers story. Also voice over of a male voice throughout the trailer to create mystery and tension.
Oujia
In the trailer above Ouija uses diegetic sound of speech from the characters in each shots. To create an introduction of the characters that are involved in the trailer. This creates a false sense of security for the audience and builds tension. Non diegetic sound used was piano over lapping the characters speech to show time moving slowly but the tension starts to build when the piano gets faster. This helps to build climax and tension throughout the trailer. There is also use of diegetic sounds of doors opening with creaking noise which was more effective than using an added effect. Another sound effect to build tension was the added screaming and constant breaking in the scream to make the scene mysterious and scary.
Unfriended
In the trailer above Unfriended they have used non diegetic sounds of sounds on computer and piano. Almost creating the effect of memories and making you feel involved in the trailer. They then used diegetic sounds from the shots of memories e.g screaming and laughing. Which gives the audiences this false sense of security and nothing going wrong in their lives. There is the added effect on non diegetic sound of typing which tells you it's a horror film that is something to do with technology and without the sound the trailer would not make sense.
